SPRING 2021 - JUNIOR

REGIONAL OFFICE

This project is a regional office for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  Their mission is to help all people in leading healthy, productive lives and give them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.

The office is located in Seoul, South Korea.  The inspiration is from traditional Korean Drum Dances.  The design decisions are derived from the structured and uniform construction of the drums themselves and the dynamic movements of the dancers.  I use materiality, color, and texture to create visual harmony and rhythm.

PHASE I

We were tasked with writing an essay where we synthesized the development (focus on evolution and change within a given timeframe) of fundamental concepts, principles, theories, and methods of a visual or performing art.  Visual arts include painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and performing arts include dance, theatre and puppetry.

VISUAL ANALYSIS OF THE DRUMS

Using the essay to move forward, I began to analyze the image and the experience of the image.  I addressed visual elements, the sensory qualities of the work and the experience of the work, environmental qualities as appropriate, and psychological characteristics.
